Atlantis Prime: A Brand New Elevated Midtown Steakhouse That You Won’t Want To Miss!

Here’s all you need to know before your first visit Atlantis Prime, the super classy newcomer to NYC’s steakhouse scene at 38 West 36th Street in Midtown (aka the Herald Square area). If you’re thinking of visiting, there’s a lot to like—and a few things to keep in mind.

What Is It / Where It Is

Name & Address: Atlantis Prime, 38 W 36th St, New York, NY 10018.

Hotel Affiliation: It’s located in the very front part of the Executive Hotel Le Soleil.

Hours: Daily 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM.

Price Tier: The have fine dining prices. Entrees tend to be $$$$ (which is typical of NYC steakhouse pricing). I would say that it is at least $50+ per main and often more depending on cut and add-ons. However, I must say that portions are huge and could easily be shared by two or three people.

Ambiance & Vibe

The décor and setting lean toward modern elegance: think clean lines, comfortable modern green leather booths and tables with white tablecloths that are well-spaced. Atlantis Prime’s upscale vibe makes it suitable for business dinners, date nights, and celebrations. Let me add that the service seems to be a point of pride. Multiple reviews mention attentive staff, polished presentation, and strong wine pairing skills by everyone on the floor. Atlantis Prime has the feel of a place that wants to balance a big “wow factor” (high-end steak cuts, presentation and big flavors) with old school comfort. The ambience is not stuffy, but it’s definitely upscale and dress code is business casual.

Menu & Highlights

Atlantis Prime’s menu focuses on the classic American surf and turf steakhouse model with several standout features.

Steaks: Prime dry-aged cuts are central to this resto’s success. Japanese Wagyu appears in their offerings and is offered at a very fair price.  I love a large marbled steaks and that is why I made a reservation in the first place (plus it was my friend’s birthday). The “stars of the show” are the bone-in New York Strip (pictured above) and Porterhouse which are done in what I call the “Peter Luger style” (the server cuts the meat off the bone in big chunks then pours melted butter on your plate).

Seafood: Many seafood options are available, including Ora King salmon and tuna in several styles. These are the more healthy options in terms of the entrees. The Spicy Tuna Sushi seems to be a sensation with the after work 20 and 30 something crowd.

Prix-Fixe Options: Atlantis Prime offers lunch and dinner prix fixe menus. For example, the New York Restaurant Week offering was $30 for a two course lunch and $55 for a three course dinner prix fixe and there are similar price fixe deals being offered even at this time.

Appetizers/Starters: Fried calamari, lobster bisque, etc., are getting a good buzz all over the internet.  Pictured above is the amazing Buratta Con Panna made with pieces of pineapple, roasted tomatoes, field greens and garlic bread. There is a Tuna Tartare app which gets as much raves as anything else on the menu (you can see dozens of photos of it on Yelp). Speaking of Yelp, at the time of this writing Atlantis Prime has all five star reviews which is quite a feat.

Sides & Desserts: Restaurant regulars and influencers posting reviews mention excellent sides (such as mac and cheese, sautéed mushrooms, steamed broccoli with butter, steak fries, etc.), and desserts that don’t disappoint. The Napoleon Cake is something extra creamy and satisfying if you are a lover of classic French desserts and then there is a warm Apple Crumble for those who to conclude a big steak dinner with an All-American “comfort” dessert. There are a few flavors of sorbet for those who like to end a big meal with a light touch.
