A NYFW Must-See: The Jane Morgan In My Style Performance Gown Exhibit At The 3 West Club!

I had a fabulous time at the Jane Morgan In My Style launch party this past Friday night in midtown on the fourth floor of 3 West 51st Street, also known as the 3 West Club. I was hoping Ms. Morgan would turn up since she curated this exhibit herself with the help of Bonnie Bien from LaPresse PR and I know she was considering showing up a few weeks ago. The black sequined gown worn her In My Style album cover from 1965 (pictured here) is my favorite one on display. I still remember when she sang “We Need A Little Christmas” and “It’s Today” with the cast of Mame on Ed Sullivan in December 1968 (you can find videos of both on YouTube).

Ms. Morgan was the replacement Mame at the Winter Garden Theater for six months from 1968 and 1969. She actually was on “Ed” several times and her biggest hit was 1959’s “Fascination” which went to #1 in the UK. Ms. Morgan was also the wife of the late and legendary concert promoter Jerry Weintraub. She’s 98 now so I understand her deciding not to travel from Kennybunkport, Maine down here to NYC for the launch party.

The In My Style exhibit is free and open all day every day through 9/14 and is a piece of NYFW that you won’t want to miss! I want Ms. Morgan to do an exhibit of her jewelry next as she owns a 29 carat diamond ring that people have said is amazing–and there are earrings and a bracelet that go with it! I understand that she still dresses to the nines to go out and spends hours getting ready. Good for her! The exhibit also has vintage formal footwear including some gorgeous Manolo Blahniks and personal items including handwritten thank you notes from celebrity friends who were entertained at her and Weintraub’s home, including Clint Eastwood and Jon Bon Jovi.

As I mentioned, In My Style can be visited everyday now through 9/14 and hours are 10 and to 7 PM everyday except on the 13th when it is open from 2-9 PM! It is “hidden gems” like this performance gown exhibit that truly make NYFW special–and it is so nice that everyone is welcome!
