I am possibly The Makeup Show’s biggest fan. While this “beauty insider” expo is held in several major cities each year, the NYC one has the largest selection of brands with their rapid beauty maniac followers just itching to get those “industry discounts” out on the floor. Whether you are a makeup artist who just have your favorite beauty brands, The Makeup Show is the place where you can stock up at the very best prices (usually in the 40 per cent discount range), meet representatives who will tell you the latest trends from their brand and take in classes with the best in the business. The International Stage has one demo after another and is THE center of the world for learning beauty trends, application tips (done on live models) and more.
James Vincent is a legend in celebrity makeup and he along with Danessa Myricks seem to be running the show. You will see them often at the International Stage and not only are they talented at their crafts, they take questions from the audience and are easily approachable when they are just roaming the show. Vincent has done more rock video makeup that anyone out there in the past 20 years and has worked on everyone from Courtney Love to Amy Winehouse (so you know he is the right guy to ask about doing severe “cat eyeliner”)! Danessa Myricks has a fabulous line of eponymous cosmetics that are magical because some are triple threats (she has creams that work on lips, cheeks and eyes)!
I was lucky enough to attend one of the kickoff events called the Sunset Beauty Brunch last night and it was hosted by Vincent with Myricks in attendance. This is an event open to all Makeup Show attendees and is very reasonable priced at $55 for a three hour event. It is conveniently located at The Metropolitan Pavilion which is just a ten minute walk from the F train at Sixth Avenue and 14th Street or Q train at Union Square.
The Sunset Beauty Brunch swag bag is phenomenal. You know I fell in love with mine immediately because it contained several Makeup Forever products including their newest foundation and five products from Danessa Myricks including her newest palette! The panel discussions included one with a Tatcha Skincare exec that fascinated me because I love the spiritual philosophy behind that brand and the fact that they have so many fabulous gift sets for holiday giving.
For more info, go to www.themakeupshow.com. This site has info for the show for all towns that it visits! This weekend costs $55 for one day or $68 for both. Once you go, you will become addicted. It makes you feel like you really have your fingers on the pulse of the beauty world and there are many popular brands but at the same time, there are ones that are brand new to the market. In other words, all the innovators are there under one roof!
