A highlight of any holiday season is knowing when the Neiman Marcus catalog is coming–well, these days they still print the catalog but most shoppers are perusing NM’s holiday goods online. I do not have to tell you that the Neiman Marcus holiday catalog is famous for its extravagant items but the truth is, there are dozens if not hundreds of affordable items. In the photo above you can see the offerings from Sugarfina who has their yummy sweets in NM but also in their own boutiques. You can get little plastic containers of assorted candies for only $10 to $15 and they make a great hostess gift for stocking stuffer. You can bet I took a few samples for myself off the table pictured above. I was thrilled that Neiman’s PR team let press get a glimpse of the holiday products more than six months before Christmas at a popular studio near the High Line at 525 West 29th Street.
Neiman Marcus has many store exclusives like these small kitchen electronics by Dolce & Gabbana. These have a Mexican flavor. I thoroughly inspected each item and was impressed by how sturdy they are made. These appliances can brighten up even the dullest New York kitchen!
Neiman Marcus knows how to “bring the bling” but they do it with class. Check out this rainbow sequined apron from their eponymous house brand. An apron like this makes you want to cook even if you can’t do much more than boil water! There are plenty of small kitchen gadgets priced at under $75 including fun coaster sets and creative hot plates.
For the wine lover who has everything and a little money to burn there is this state of the art bottle opener/decanter that will leave your bottle suspended and keep it fresh for six months in this position! Pour yourself a glass anytime over six months–your vino will stay fresh. This is perfect for anyone who hates to see good wine get wasted!
There are numerous designer bags and shoes and all the big names have lots of blingy items for the holidays from Dolce to Manolo and back again. I was truly impressed with the evening bags on display for the holiday preview. All of them would provide a lot of head turning but especially the boom box themed evening bag pictured above.
Neiman Marcus’ holiday ornaments are in a league of their own. They tend to be on the $40 to $100 range but they are treasures to be passed from generation to generation. This year there are a lot of luxury dessert themed ornaments that are painfully cute. This ornament shaped like a dish of truffles stole my heart. I think that this would be a wonderful gift to bring to a friend who has a tree every year and who is hosting you for the holidays.
Neiman always has plenty of quirky luxury items in their holiday goods lineup and these retro metal radios stole my heart. They would appeal to anyone from hipsters to baby boomers and you can play both standard FM radio and streaming radio on them. They are real attention grabbers sitting on your shelf and come in bright colors.
People with a rock and roll flair would love this small clear guitar with a 70s vibe. It comes with an amp and is just super fun to tool around with even if you are not musically inclined.
So there you go–these are only a few of the highlights from my visit to the Neiman Marcus Holiday 2018 press preview. I drooled over everything–even the $30 brass shoe horn. Neiman just does everything with class and quality and a trip to one of their stores or to their site is just brings out the oohs and aahs in all of us!
Update: I just got to attend another Neiman Marcus Holiday 2018 event called 1907 Fantasy Lane which showcased their holiday fantasy activity packages as well as the launch of their legendary holiday catalog known simply as The Christmas Book. They had vignettes about several of the fantasy activities being offered at an event space in Hudson Yards just east of The Javits Center on 10/18/18 and I was able to meet with some of the activity package curators and was highly impressed. You can get styled by a Hollywood movie wardrobe legend that includes custom made vintage-inspired ensembles. Also up for grabs is a champagne and tennis package where you get to play with famous tennis stars and then have them come to a luxury tennis themed party planned by Neiman Marcus event specialists.
