I Went Back To The Capital Grille to Check Out Their Summer Wine Event–And It’s A Must For Wine Fanatics

I am more of a “foodie” than a wine enthusiast but I was lucky enough to attend a press tasting of the many fabulous wines being offered during The Generous Pour Event this summer at all 55 Capital Grille locations nationwide. Our event was guided by their master sommelier George Miliotes who picks the vino for all 55 locations. While my colleagues and myself chowed down on some of the cities most beautifully marbled ribeyes and succulent filet mignon, George talked about how he came to pick the wines in The Generous Pour program–and it is hard to be believed but each diner ordering this “wine special” will be getting SEVEN glasses of wine for $28. It is up to servers to “top” them when the glasses run low, so just think of all the wonderful wine you will be getting to try. I found a few favorites myself. You might want to steal the souvenir glasses that have The Generous Pour logo embossed on them in white lettering while you are there and then try your own tasting at home.

Anyway, I fell in love with the Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Blend (on the left in photo to your left) and the Stags Leap, The Leap Cabernet Sauvignon (on the right in the same photo). George custom paired theses for my ribeye done medium rare. The Penfolds Bin 2 was bold and tasted of star anise, plush fruits and dark chocolate while the Stags’ Leap had intense flavors of black pepper, cedar, coffee and cocoa.

I cannot recommend the wines from The Generous Pour menu enough. While your personal sommelier at each restaurant might be picking for you as opposed to the master himself, George promises that the 2016 Generous Pour Collection features offerings from what he calls “rebels, rule breakers and game changers who have forever changed the landscape of wine.” You can ask your sommelier will give you a detailed wine list of what is being featured in The Generous Pour Collection before you start dining.

Dessert wines are not included in The Generous Pour but there are lovely offering from $11 to $14 a glass that will go lovely with the legendary cheesecake and coconut cream pies that are the two most popular desserts at Capital Grille locations nationwide.
