THE BEST OF THE BEST–NEW YORK’S BEST PARTIES, SOCIAL EVENTS & EATERY EXCLUSIVES

It’s No Secret–I’m In Love With “The Generous Pour” At Capital Grilles Nationwide!

I recently got to preview The Generous Pour’s wonderful seven great wines (all rated above 90 by The Wine Review) which will be available from 7/10/17 to 9/3/17 at Capital Grilles across the country. I visited the West 51st Street branch and not only tested the seven wines–which you can have in an unlimited amount for $28 as long as you order and entree–but I indulged in some of their hearty grub.

This year’s wine list for The Generous Pour is indeed very special and personally selected by the restaurant’s sommelier Phillips. The whites that you get are: WillaKenzie Estate (Williamette Valley, 2016) Pinot Gris, Matanzas Creek Winery (Sonoma, 2016) Savignon Blanc, and Cambria, Clone 4 (Santa Maria Valley, 2015) Chardonnay,

The reds featured are: Siduri (Williamette Valley, 2015) Pinot Noir,  Arrowood “Sonoma Estates” (Sonoma County, 2014) Cabernet Sauvignon, Edmeades (Mendocino, 2013) Zinfandel and Mt. Brave, Mt. Veeder (Napa Valley, 2012) Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dessert wines are also available here and Green recommends Edmeades (Mendocino, 2010) and Mt. Brave, Mt Veeder (Napa Valley, 2012); keep in mind that they are not part of the Generous Pour but are phenomenally fruity and refreshing! (Prices are about $10 per glass.)

As for the food, I can never go to Capital Grille without experiences their thick and succulent 10-ounce filet mignon or legendary Lobster Mac And Cheese. I try tostay low carb by sticking to steak, salad and green sides like their wonderful roasted Brussels Sprouts with thick chunks of country bacon and their grilled asparagus done with truffle oil, but I always need to have their super-rich Coconut Pie and NY Cheesecake. My motto when leaving Capital Grille (and you can even hear me saying it aloud as I leave their grand front doors) is “I will go back on my diet tomorrow!”

You can see photos of many of these legendary dishes to the left. The undeniably tempting items served at The Generous Pour press dinner that I attended included the appetizers Lobster And Crab Cakes, Pan Fried Calamari with Hot Cherry Peppers and Prosciutto Wrapped Mozzarella With Vine Ripe Tomatoes. Our entrees where the aforementioned 10 Ounce Filet Mignon, Bone-In Kona Crusted Dry Aged NY Strip With Shallot Butter, Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye With 15-Year Aged Balsamic and Sear Citrus Glazed Salmon With Marcona Almonds And Brown Butter.

Our sides served family style were the aforementioned delightful Lobster Mac ‘N’ Cheese, Soy Glazed Brussels Sprouts With Bacon, Grilled Asparagus With Lemon Mosto and Parmesan Truffle Fries.

Our desserts (also served family style) were Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake as well as the aforementioned Coconut Cream Pie and Cheesecake With Seasonal Berries.

I strongly recommend The Capital Grille as a great crowd pleasing restaurant for business, date night and family get-togethers. The staff is super attentive and dishes can be adopted to fit any dietary need. Just make sure that you come with a hearty appetite and if you cannot finish that huge steak or dessert, have no shame in asking for a doggie bag. Every time I am there, someone at virtually every table is asking for one!
